Sean’s not in the market for love. Then she meets Julian. Brooding, beautiful and eleven years her junior. A bad idea.

Julian pursues her in a way that sets off alarm bells in her mind, but she finds herself unable to resist their undeniable chemistry-even starts fantasizing about him in dreams that feel altogether too real. They also have a lot in common despite their age gap. So, to hell with If men can date younger, why can’t she? But the more Sean gets to know him, the more impossible Julian He has a depth and sorrow to him that’s beyond his years, and sometimes there’s a look in his eyes that’s less than human, and leaves her feeling more like prey. Plus, Sean herself has been exhibiting odd symptoms-memory lapses, a lack of restraint that’s unlike her, persistent exhaustion-that all trace back to Julian, making Sean feeling more than a little afraid. Who-or what-is she falling, irrevocably, in love with?

My thoughts:

I’ve always enjoyed a good paranormal romance, but over time they’ve gotten predictable for me. This book changed that. It’s dark, dangerous, and oh so sexy, and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

The book focuses on Sean, the only Black woman, working as an interventional cardiologist at her hospital. She’s spent much of her early thirties healing from an abusive relationship, so instead of dealing with men, she keeps her energy for her best friend, her goddaughter, and her work. Then she meets Julian, who is sexy, mysterious and much younger. The chemistry between them is off the charts, and the way he keeps showing up everywhere is a little weird. Not to mention that she can’t stop dreaming about him and the dreams are a little too realistic. The more time she spends with him, the stranger things become. Suddenly she finds herself dealing with memory lapses, exhaustion, and a nagging sense that Julian isn’t quite human.

I was completely invested in Sean and Julian’s journey, and I was just as conflicted as Sean was about her growing feelings. The stakes are high, and the writing is strong and immersive. I also loved the tone from start to finish. It’s sexy and dangerous and almost dreamlike. Somehow the author makes it feel exactly what Sean is feeling. For the longest time I couldn’t tell whether Julian was really dangerous, or just a harmless, not entirely human, being. And then the book took a turn I didn’t see coming, which changed things. And I probably don’t need to say that the sexiness is here in droves.

If you’re in the mood for a hot, sexy read with a dangerous paranormal romance at its core, this is the one to grab.
