This is only the second Carly Fortune book I’ve read, but I really enjoyed it, and it ended up being the perfect way to close out the summer.

Frankie agrees, telling herself it’s really just a chance to repair their friendship. But first they need to unpack years of buried feelings and secrets neither of them has ever fully dealt with.

I really enjoy how Fortune writes her characters, and I liked bouncing back and forth in time to see exactly how Frankie and George’s relationship formed and evolved over the years. These two had a believable history together, and that history comes through in every interaction. Their feelings for each other felt genuine rather than manufactured for the sake of the plot, and I found myself rooting hard for them to actually end up together by the end. My one small critique is that Frankie felt a little too oblivious at times to what was obviously going on between them, to the point where I wanted to reach into the book and ask her WTF was wrong with her.

I did an immersive read on this one, and the narration was spot on. Both narrators captured the characters’ voices really well, and I especially liked that the male narrator handled all the male dialogue while the female narrator handled all the female dialogue. It made every voice feel more distinct and realistic than having one narrator try to cover everyone.

I’m looking forward to reading more from this author. If you love friends to lovers stories with believable emotional history behind them and a dual timeline, this is absolutely worth picking up.
