February Reading Prompts
There’s a lot happening this month! Not only is it Black history month, but it’s also the month of love (hey, Valentine’s Day – I’m looking at you), Groundhog’s day month, President’s day month and most importantly – it’s also my birthday month!
Here are the prompts for the month ahead along with a few book suggestions that would satisfy each. As always, the books listed are merely suggestions, and you are not limited to only the books I have listed. Also, I haven’t read all of the suggested books. Some of them I pulled from other reader’s “highly suggested” lists because the synopsis sounded interesting. Do your due diligence to check trigger warnings, etc before jumping in. Happy reading!
Prompt #1: Read a romance book by a Black author.
This is pretty self-explanatory. There are several out there, but here are a few to look into:
- You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty by Akwaeke Emezi
- The Neighbor Favor by Kristina Forest
- The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory
- Seven Days in June by Tia Williams
- The Son of Mr. Suleman by Eric Jerome Dickey
- I Think They Love You by Julian Winters
- D’Vaughn and Kris Plan a Wedding by Chencia C. Higgins
- Friday I’m in Love by Camryn Garrett
Prompt #2: Read one of my favorite books
Read one of my favorite books. It was difficult to choose because there are so many, but I chose 10 that I still think about.
The other six:
- Maeve Fly by CJ Leede (Horror/Female Rage)
- Hex by Thomas Olde Huevelt (Horror/Interesting take on witches)
- Anyone’s Ghost by August Thompson (Drama/Coming of Age/LGBTQIA+)
- Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune (Fantasy/LGBTQIA+/Emotional)
- The Devil All The Time by Donald Ray Pollock (Crime/Dark/Multiple Characters)
- Brother & Sister Enter the Forest by Richard Mirabella (Family Drama/LGBTQIA+/Mental Health/Abuse/Emotional)
